WHAT WE DO

Promote the production and consumption of traditional fruits and vegetables

Studies have shown that the elderly are at a higher risk of developing malnutrition due to physiological and pathological changes. Several studies have confirmed that older Africans and Cameroonian have insufficient dietary diversity, resulting in nutritional deficiencies. Furthermore, poor and uninformed dietary choices are associated with the development of several diseases and increased mortality rate in local communities in Cameroon.
The production and consumption of fruits and vegetables have a potential role in improving household food security and are considered one of the critical pathways for reducing food insecurity and malnutrition levels in local communities in Cameroon. Thinking Without A Box Initiative Association works with local farmers in Tubah sub-division, and Cameroon to promote the production and consumption of fruits and vegetables by the elderly. This is achieved by supporting local farmers with basic training, seeds, fertilizers, and other relevant farming tools to grow fruits and vegetables that they sell to the elderly at reduced costs.

Promote sports, arts, and culture

Studies have shown that sport, arts and culture are at the centre of development in local communities. Thinking Without A Box Initiative Association works with local communities to provide leadership to sport, arts and culture in Tubah and Cameroon in order to accelerate innovation, and development and to create employment and entertainment for young people and the population of the sub-division. This is achieved by sponsoring sporting activities such as women handball and football competitions during Annual General Meetings (AGM) in palaces/kingdoms across the sub-division. We also organise and sponsor annual dances and related performances in villages across the sub-division as a way of promoting and preserving the rich and diverse heritage of the region. Furthermore, TWBI.A organises and sponsors the annual Ms Tubah Pageant that has become one of our flagship projects.

Promote the writing and preservation of family biographies

Studies have shown that most people, especially the less affluent do not know the history of the family where they come from beyond their parents, siblings, uncles, and aunts among others. Furthermore, migration from the villages to the cities and to foreign countries in search of “Greener Pastures” have cut so many people from their roots making some to raise children and families that do not know anything about their family biography. This has made such people to see themselves as “a people without a soul.” TWBI.A works with families in villages across Tubah, Cameroon and globally to initiate, conceptualise and document the biographies of the families as a legacy document for the present and future generations. TWBI.A also explores possibilities of digitising family biographies to ensure they are accessed not only in Tubah and Cameroon, but from any part of the world.

Initiate and formulate project proposals and to respond to funding calls and implement projects on pertinent issues affecting communities

Our work is guided by empirical research on pertinent issues affecting communities in Tubah and Cameroon. Typically, we conduct research on issues associated with the importance of fruits and vegetables to food security and the elderly; the importance of traditional food systems to local communities; the role of sport, arts and culture to youth and community development; we provide training and capacity building on a range of issues affecting local communities and how they can be tackled; we initiate and implement projects on family histories and biographies and we prepare reports and publish scholarly papers on the work we do. Our projects are guided by the requirements of funders and other philanthropic organisations.
